DeeJay Dallas: Mid Season Review
Welcome back to another diary by me, Deejay Dallas. This is my third entry and my first in well over a month. The season has started and the Glynn Academy Terrors are off to a great start. We are 4-2 and the season is looking good so far. Of course we would like to have won those two games that didn’t go our way, but I don’t like to live in the past. I always move ahead and learn from the mistakes I have made. This year I made the transition from receiver to quarterback. The switch was not easy but my coaches and teammates made it a lot easier by helping me learn the offense from a new perspective. Thus far I have ten total touchdowns, but I care more about winning football games and helping my team than scoring touchdowns.
The toughest game of the season that is coming up on our schedule is the game against Ware County. Last year we lost 42-21 against them, but this year we play them at home. After going on a two game skid in the middle of the season, we have bounced back to win two straight, which has given us some momentum going into the game this Friday. My favorite moment of the season so far would have to be my first start at quarterback. I had never played it before and I didn’t know what to expect. To make it even better, we won the game. My goal for the rest of the season is to have our team get better at what we do.
As a University of Georgia commit, I am always keeping up with the Dawgs. They started the season great and even though they lost to Alabama, I still believe the team can rebound and make a run late in the season. Committing to Georgia still ranks as one of my top moments in my life so far, and I can’t wait to get there and play in front of the best fans in the nation. I also keep up with all the recruiting news that comes from Georgia. Two players I would love to commit to UGA and then play with in college are William Poole and Jaden Hunter. Those two would build on an already amazing recruiting class for 2017. When I get to UGA I want to play wide receiver or defensive back. I would really love to play on both sides because I think I have the athletic ability to do so. It would be amazing to play both ways, but I would do whatever Coach Richt asks me to do. I just want to win football games. I went to the South Carolina game this year and it was unbelievable. The atmosphere is unlike anything else, it’s always lit in Athens. Although I remain committed to UGA, it is always smart to keep your options open. Ole Miss, Mississippi State, California, and Florida are still heavily recruiting me. In fact, I recently visited Gainesville and went to the game against Tennessee. It is always fun to go to other schools and hear what the coaches have to say and then watch them play.
Looking beyond this week and towards the future, I have some goals I want to accomplish within the next year. This season I want to rush for 2000 yards and pass for 1000 yards. I think this is doable because of my athletic ability, and also because of my teammates. The passing yards won’t be easy with me still in transition, but my teammates will help me, and that’s why I think it will be possible.
It would be exciting to attend The Opening over the summer. To go up against the best in the nation would be something I would love to do. If I end up getting an invite to an All-American game, I would accept the invitation in a heartbeat. It would be an honor, and it would be a great culmination to what I think is going to be a great last couple seasons. But what I want the most, and what all high school athletes want more than anything, is a state ring. I want to win state. I want to say Glynn Academy is the best football team in 5A. That would be amazing.
