Lamont Wade back with yet another installment to my Recruit Diary. A lot has happened since the last time I wrote, and I just want to update everybody on what has been going on. First off, we won our region for the second straight year and it was an amazing feeling to be named the best team in the region once again. However, in the state playoffs we endured a shocking loss to Berlin Brothersvalley that nobody saw coming. Lastly, during the past couple of weeks, I have been receiving visits from some of the schools that are recruiting me.

Let me start off by saying that this year’s Clairton Bears team was one of the best teams ever and that I still believe we are the best team not only in our classification but also in our state. One loss does not take that away. We ended the season 14-1 and it was an amazing season; more on that one loss later. In fifteen games we only scored below fifty points six times and put up seventy points four times. My best game of the season was in the second round of the playoffs in which I rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns. It is always fun to run all over a team and know that no matter what they try to do, they just can’t stop it. Our team was full of dynamic playmakers and any one of us could have gone off on any given night, and when we were all clicking and playing well, it is an amazing thing to watch. My favorite play would easily have to be my 91-yard touchdown in the region championship game in which we won 40-0. Overall, the season went well, but not according to plan. While we won the region, we had bigger goals, and we failed to accomplish them.

After we won the region. BACK TO BACK!!

The loss to Berlin Brothersvalley was a rough one. We were not expecting it, and it was a big shock. It is something that I will never forget, and it will always haunt me. We lost 35-22 and it was a heartbreaker. Three of our team’s biggest playmakers and our superstars were injured; we were never truly healthy during the season. The injury bug hit our team hard this year. We rarely turned the ball over during the season, but for some reason, we turned the ball over this game, and it eventually came back to hurt us. The field surface was not optimal and not something that I would like to play on again, but both teams had to deal with. They were the better team that day. In the endm they just wanted it more, and they won the game. The worst pain of my life comes when I lose a football game; it’s the worst feeling ever. I feel like I let my team, my coaches, and my city down. It’s something that will stay with me forever.

Since my season has ended, some of the schools that have come to visit Clairton have been Tennessee, Ohio State, West Virginia, Pitt, Northwestern, Penn State, and Michigan. I really appreciate that that these colleges have come to my school and it shows that they are truly interested in me. At the moment, I don’t have any leaders, but I plan to cut my list down in the spring. Make sure to check back, because I will release it in one of my diaries. I look at all schools with an open mind, however, I do have a favorite visit out of all the ones I have taken so far. My visit to Tennessee was my unreal. The atmosphere there is crazy, and they have some of the most diehard fans in the country. I have made it clear that I would like to play with some of my Clairton teammates at the next level. If one school offered a lot of my teammates (especially the Goony Gang), I would probably go with them to whatever school that is. In deciding between schools, I look for academics, the people involved with the program, the fans, players, coaches, and just everybody in general at the school. I will be spending three to four years of my life at that school, so I need to know it will be the best place for me to develop not only as a football player, but also as a student and a person.

I always get a lot of criticism. From the media, the fans, other teams, almost everybody. I always hear that I am too short. Another is that I wouldn’t be the same player in another division, or that Clairton plays nobody and has no competition. Honestly, I think they probably wish they played for Clairton. Obviously I am doing something right if people are trying to bring me down. If you are someone who is told they are too short, too small, and don’t have what it takes, I have a message for you. Listen to me. Forget the haters and get to work, lose the feelings, and be the hardest worker out there. Do not let anybody outwork you. Use other people’s hate to fuel you to be your best and use it to propel you to even greater things that you could have ever imagined. Oh yeah, also try to have some hops, lol.
